This thing is SO LOUD. I can't believe I paid this much for it. The thing constantly makes this gurgling sound -- the entire time it is running. We assumed it would stop after a few days as it settled but no. We called a repairman who called Summit and was told (without listening to it) that it was normal. So we are stuck with hours a day of a sound like we have an indoor water feature. I cannot even imagine this noise is normal, and if it is normal, there is no way you should pay this much for this thing. I have a Eurocave that costs this much, holds 5x as much wine, and I can't even tell when it's on. Not only that, and not only does it not actually hold 35 normal sized bottles (31, max), the shelves do not hold oversized bottles. I'm used to shelves having reduced capacity if bottles are oversized, but this unit has such tight *vertical* spacing that even Champagne bottles won't fit on the shelves at all. It's ridiculous. I advise you to steer clear.

    Getting a Working Unit:
After weeks of research into what beverage center to get, I decided on Summit Model SWBV3001. In March 2016, the beverage center arrived. I plugged it in and it appeared to be working! After a couple days, drinks were not cold. It was a DOA unit.

I called Summit and was told that an authorized repair center had to investigate. After another week the repairman from a local company came out and confirmed my suspicion. Summit shipped me another unit and didn't even want the original unit back (guess the shipping costs more than this thing is worth).

Three more weeks passed by as I waited on my new unit to arrive. With my hopes still high that this had been an isolated incident I started to collect wine. When it finally arrived, I plugged in the unit and I could tell it was getting cold 5-8 hours later.

    Actually using SWBV3001:
Pros: The wooden wine shelves are nice. It isn't as loud as some reviews say. Maybe because it was built into my bar and we usually have a movie or music playing.
Cons: The sliders are hard to push to get them to snap back all the way into the unit. The wooden shelves can't be adjusted. ONLY standard bottles will fit in the wooden shelves. Chardonnay bottles WILL NOT fit without a jigsaw puzzle and tearing up the labels as they scrape and almost bend the other shelves to slide back into place. The right side doesn't ship with enough shelves, you have to stack cans and bottles. The seals around the doors don't seal very well. And the most expensive parts (compressor, starter, etc), well we'll get to that in a minute.

    The End State:
From April 2016 - May 2017, the unit worked well. Despite all the cons listed, it was in my bar, my friends and I loved stocking it. Mid-May 2017, it started making a loud vibration noise I could hear from one floor up. I would check on it, unplug it and let it rest, but it would still cool drinks. A couple weeks later, the noise stopped, and so did the cooling.

I once again called Summit and spoke to their support technicians. The support person interrupted me 4 times to inform me that the unit was out of warranty and would not be covered. I informed them that I had read the manual and I understood that the compressor was covered for 5 years. Finally, I got my question through without being interrupted, how can I get this thing fixed? I just needed to know if I should call the same local company that had confirmed my suspicion just over a year ago. The support person said yes, call them, they are still a trusted place. Summit support person didn't look anything up, didn't take the serial number, didn't take my number, even after I asked if they would like to document the situation. In closing the conversation I asked for the person's name and they mumbled it.

The local company came out to research the issue, and determined that it was most likely the starting components to the compressor or the compressor. Summit informed me that they would only cover the cost of a compressor, not cover the labor cost associated with installing a new compressor (including freon, welding, etc). So for new starting components I was looking at ~$150 install and $100 for parts. For a new compressor install I was looking at $700-800 in addition to the compressor from Summit. The local technician then tried to call Summit and ask if they would cover the Starting components, since they actually come with a new compressor. Of course, that was a short conversation and the Summit person said ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I will spend the money with our local authorized repair company to install the starting components, but I will not be doing business with this company ever again.
